Getting crafty for Church Children Camp

My dear friend, Su Ting, is going to teach the older students (9-11 years old) in the coming Children Camp at our church this precious little weaved box with cover. (the one shown here is made by Su Ting herself)

Upon the students finishing the weaving part, I will then give them ideas on decorating the top of the cover.

Came out with 4 samples for them to refer to. I wish to see some creativity from the kids. And the best part of this is that, all these (including those for the kids) are from my scraps (not 1 whole piece of cardstock or patterned paper was cut) and some of it are non acid free stickers and embellishments which I don't use (anymore) in my layouts. What great way to get creative.

And of course, I can't get crafty without the help of the little one. She helped with operating the Cuttlebug, die-cutting the flowers, scalloped circle, label and embossing bits and pieces. Here she is, busy with her "work". (apologize for the blur and shaky video. I was using the camera on my mobile and I was trying to help her too)

Toot!

Just wanted to shout that I made Top 5 @ SP Colour Combo with this photo card for my mom. Wow....though there's not prize, I am still very very happy.

Just photos

For the sake of my sister in the US, here's a blog post, with minimum writing but lots of (well not that many though) photos. My apology for some of the poor photos, Grace was moving so fast, the lighting is poor and my camera is old (...blame it on anything...wahahhaha).

Orange juice, anyone?

Her favourite, hand printing!

Gosh! She looks like she's way past 3 years old in these photos.

We got her a trolley bag. It's from Standard Chartered Choice Reward. And she loves it. She says, she's gonna go to school.

Silly clown, clowning around!

Her creature chair, which was a Christmas present (2008) from her youngest uncle. It took me about 1 hour and a very tired pair of hands to inflate the chair.

And here's a video of her with her "black" hands. Notice her mischievous expression?

A photo card

Have been wanting to make at least one photo card after seeing many inspirations from the Hero Arts blog weeks ago. Then, when I saw sketch #33 from 52 sketches...52 weeks, I knew immediately that, this is the time to make a photo card. My mom's birthday is on Sept 1st, so I made this.

This one card serves 3 purposes. One, for my mom's birthday (obviously), two for submission to 52 sketches...52 weeks and three, for submission for SPCC colour combo challenge.

And, I must admit, I'm indeed in love with Cosmo Cricket line of papers. Here, again I'm using the Earth Love collection.

Rationalizing

Well, just to jot down 2 cases of Grace rationalizing a situation.

First
On Saturday, we were at my mom's place and were playing toy cars (in fact those are London taxi and London Bus models, James Bond's car model and many more). For some reason, Grace loves to play cars too. So she were playing with my mom and there's this one incident where a moving car collided with a stationary car. When collision happens, the one which was not moving, due to the momentum, moved a little. Grace saw that. Then, my mom pushed another car at Grace's direction, whom was lying on the floor, and the car hit Grace. Later this conversation took place.

Grandma: That stationary car moved when a moving car hit it. How come you don't move when the car hit you?
Grace: Because that is a car and I'm a human. (因为那个是车,我是人吗!)

Second
Yesterday I was having a meeting after Sunday Service. Hubby look after Grace and bought some jelly to entertain her while waiting for me. However, my meeting when longer than the amusement the jelly could bring. So another church member, Ronnie, took Grace for a walk. And like most of the time, they came back with something on Grace's hand. We had told Grace not to request for things from others, as we don't want her to get the idea that she will get everything and anything that she wants. Sometimes, she will remember and tells Uncle Ronnie not to buy things for her. But sometimes, she just chooses to get hold of the opportunity. So yesterday while on the way home, I had this conversation with her:

She was having the Rocky biscuits that Uncle Ronnie bought for her.
Mummy: Who bought you the biscuits?
Grace: My Uncle Ronnie (ya...she likes that make everything and everyone hers)
Mummy: Next time, please don't asked others to keep on buying things for you. That's not good.
Grace: (thinking for a while).......But I was hungry and wanted to eat this!
Mummy: (oh dear.....she's rationalizing her problem)

Tomatoes

My mom has a mini vege-garden at the alley behind her house. Grace likes to "visit" this garden and have a go at plucking vegetables, especially the tomatoes. I made this layout in the tone of greens and using sketch #32 from 52 sketches....52 weeks.

Here I made a patterned paper ruffle after going through a tutorial over at 52 sketches...52 weeks. And I just love how it turned out.

Materials:
Cardstock - Core'dinations
Patterned paper - Cosmo Cricket Earth Love and Early Bird collection (my favourite collection)
Alphas - Tim Holtz Grungeboard Large alphabet stripe
Others - Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Fired Brick)

Little Doggie

I've no idea what is so fascinating about being a puppy. My little princess, afraid of dogs herself, kept on pretending to be a puppy. Crawling on four, barking (well, making barking sound), pretending to eat from a bowl and even requested us to throw a ball and she will fetch it the doggie style. Oh dear....

She'd been doing so for the past few weeks, or may be months. I wonder what "inspire" her so much!

Dinosaurs, where can I see them?

Did your toddler ever ask you this questions? With the cartoons and children program featuring dinosaurs, something that I don't get to see anymore, parents were put into a really great challenge! At least to me.

Today, we were watching Hi-5 special series "Go Wild" and there's this one section where all the Hi-5 team dressed up as dinosaurs.

Grace: Where can I see dinosaurs? I want to see them!
Mummy: They are from pre-historic time. We don't get to see them now. We can only see those fake ones in movie.
Grace: I want to see.....whimper...
Mummy: ~@@~

Busy, busy, busy!

Well, after getting my new venture to go-live, I'm still really busy (or I made it to look like busy). Had not been crafting the past few days as I was engaged in something that I had not touch for a long time.

You see, I'm a Bachelor of Commerce graduate majoring in accounting and 3 minors in economy, marketing and MIS (Multimedia Information System, I think). Out of the 3 minors, I love MIS the most. Before I gave up my career to take care of my little mischief, I was a Finance Supervisor in a shared service centre of a MNC. My work relates a lot on business/account reporting and I work day in day out coming out with new automated reports for the organisation. I resolve around BRIO reporting, Ms Excel, a little of Ms Access, SQL and stuff like that. I love it!

And now, as I was starting my new venture, I thought I should have a proper system recording my costs and also a proper invoicing system. As such, I worked and asked and work again to get the the desired results. Everything is coming together now, though it is not sophicated at all, it works for a real small business. Grin...grin...

Talking about my new venture, I just want to remind readers about my two giveaways. Remember, if you want to in the running for the giveaway in this blog, leave a comment on the post, if you want to be in the running for the card giveaway at Y-Shong Handmade Craft, enter your comment in the Suggestion Box at that blog.

Happy Man

Hubby will be celebrating his 38th birthday (since I don't make my age a secret, hubby's age is not a secret too...grin) this coming August 5th. Yesterday, we decided to gather a few of our close friends at our house for a quick and simple celebration.

My mother-in-law cooked her best "lam mee" (some kind of noodles with soup cooked from prawns' skin) and our friends bought the nicest cake.

And so,
birthday celebrations
plus cheeky daughter
plus family members
plus close friends
equals a happy man

Thus, the big smile on his face in this photo, which I quickly transform to a layout.
(we were taking photo as a family of three in the dark (with the candles), thus no nice photo of me)
